Sie experimentierten erst mit einer großen Weltkarte und unregelmäßigen Feldern, kehrten schließlich geläutert zu einem Gitter regelmäßiger Sechsecke zurück, und da die Zeit der Phantasiewelten angebrochen war - Tolkiens Mittelerde, Howards Hyborische Welt, Leibers Lankhmar - entwarfen sie ihre eigene Spielwelt: Die Alte Welt (den Namen Magira gab es damals noch nicht), und das Spiel nannten sie Armageddon.

Follow war von Anfang an nicht wie ein Club organisiert, sondern wie Gruppen von Völkern der archaisch-phantastischen Welt, die sie sich ausgedacht hatten. Jeder Lord nahm Interessenten in sein Volk auf, die verschiedene Ränge durchliefen und, wenn sie sich um die gemeinsame Phantasiewelt verdient gemacht hatten, selbst Lords wurden und ein eigenes Volk auf der Welt begründen durften. Sie gründeten im Sommer 1976 die Magiragruppe (den Followclan) der „Schlangen“ (in Follow werden die Völker und Clans umgangssprachlich meist nach den auf den Volkswappen dargestellten Dingen bezeichnet), die enzymäßíg das Land „Erainn“ auf der Alten Welt Magiras simuliert, eine nach irisch-mythologischem Hintergrund basierende Kultur.

Viel aus den alten und neuen Sagen und Legenden dieses keltischen Kreises entlehnt, geeint im Glauben an die Natur und an „Nathir – die Allumfassende Schlange“ (als Symbol für den Ewigen Kreislauf, auch der „Worm Ouroboros“ genannt, die sich in den eigenen Schwanz beißende Schlange). Dazu ein paar Anlehnungen an Moorcocks „Elric“ (die kaltherzigen, arroganten, ganz und gar individualistischen Coraniaid als Herrschaftsgruppe), ein wenig von Darkover (Matrices = Sternsteine) und anderem, darunter viel eigenem Engagement und Entwicklung.

Elsa und Jürgen Franke entwickelten auf Basis der Welt Magira das in erste deutschsprachige Rollenspielsystem Midgard und dessen gleichnamige Welt. Die Vorläufer von Midgard waren das in einer Auflage von 20 Exemplaren 1977 erschienene „Empires of Magira“. 1978 erschien die Regel mit einem neuen Cover und neuem Namen: „Abenteuer in Magira“. Die erste Midgard Regel erschien 1981 im Verlag für Fantasy- und Science Fiction-Spiele (VFSF).

1987 schließlich war das Jahr der Trennung von Midgard und Magira. Bis dahin waren die Spielszenarien noch im magiranischen Umfeld angesiedelt. Die geplante Ausweitung des Vertriebes (fortan durch “Klee-Spiele“ in Lizenz von Elsa Frankes „Verlag für Fantasy & Science Fiction-Spiele“) machte dies notwendig. Und da an der „magiranischen Enzyklopädie“ in den 21 Jahren seit Follows Gründung zahllose Leute mitgearbeitet hatten, war die Rechtelage höchst ungewiss (zudem Hugh Walker/Hubert Strassl mit seinen Magira-Romanen und der Pabel/Moewig-Verlag ebenfalls noch involviert waren und auch diverse Follower in abgewandelten Regeln ein bis heute auf kleiner Flamme laufendes „Abenteuer in Magira“-System herausbringen wollten).

So wurde die Welt Midgard geschaffen. In einigen Landen (Nahuatlan, Rawindra, Waeland) erkennt man noch die ursprüngliche magiranische Entsprechung, bei Alba (Albyon) ist mehr als die Hälfte der Enzy identisch, und bei Erainn sogar noch mehr (der Name und 90 % der Landschaft). Dagegen sind Länder wie Aran und Kan-Thai-Pan gänzlich neuentwickelt.

Nach diesem kurzen Ausflug in die Geschichte des deutschsprachigen Rollenspiels aber nun zurück zu den Brettspielen. Der Urvater von Phoenix ist das 1978 von Wolfgang Röfke geschriebene PBM (Play by Mail) Regelwerk Welt der Götter (WdG). WdG basierte im wesentlichen auf Armageddon bzw. dem unbekannteren “Auge der Götter“ von Bernd Weß.

1979 entstand die erste Phoenix-Spielregel. Damals noch als Briefspiel. 1982 wurde der VFBS (Verein zur Förderung phantastischer Brief- und Simulationsspiele) e.V. von WdG und Phoenix-Spielern ins Leben gerufen (Werner Müller, Michael Maleis). Der VFBS veranstaltet auch heute noch das Erkenfara-Phönix-Treffen. Für das [[Phoenix]]-[[Segment]] [[Calygon]], welches in der Brunsviga in Braunschweig jährlich zu Pfingsten bespielt wurde, wurde die Regeln von Andree Witzmann und Helge Moog überarbeitet. Helge Moog war Spielleiter des [[Phoenix]]-[[Segment]]s [[Calygon]], bis dieses nach 10 Jahren 1997 beendet wurde.

Seit 1990 gibt es das durch Andree Witzmann ins Leben gerufene [[Phoenix]]-[[Segment]] [[Erkenfara]], welches noch heute aktiv bespielt wird. Die 1996 ins Leben gerufene Drachenwelt hatte leider nur zwei Jahre Bestand. 2001 startete die Welt Enair, welche leider 2008 beendet wurde.
