TOWCESTER has validated an interest in staging the TV Trophy throughout this year's Derby after the distinguished marathon competition was a noteworthy omission from the 2026 GBGB open-race calendar.


Talks are presently ongoing in between the Northamptonshire location and the GBGB to host the throughout the 2nd and third rounds of the Classic, with the aim of still running the conventional Dorando Marathon race on Derby last night.


GBGB's business director Mark Moisley stated: "We are not in a position to make any statement regarding this year's TV Trophy but we are enthusiastic that the offer can be reached by the end of the week."


Predominantly a nomadic competition since its very first staging in 1958, the TV Trophy was held at Wimbledon for nine successive years between 1997 and 2005 before once again moving from track to track.


Champion stayer Mongys Wild broke the 942m performance history at Towcester in in 2015's final and his handler Mark Wallis stressed the competitors's value as he said: "It would be very poor for the sport if an event as big as the TV Trophy failed to occur this year.


"It does not matter when it occurs as long as it does. It's a competitors soaked in history."


On the defending champ, who was last sighted winning the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket at Monmore last month, Wallis included: "He's really well and banging down the kennel door in your home desperate for a run.


"I'll want to give him a trial someplace soon."
